She did not write it down. She did not tell everyone. She kept it, and turned it over, and carried it.

You do this every day without calling it anything. The way he said a word wrong. The way she reached for your hand in the parking lot without looking up. Nobody else will remember those. You will.

That keeping is not sentimentality. It is a kind of faithfulness — the sort that notices a small person carefully, over years, and does not look away.
