The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882, organized by the Central Labor Union. It became a federal holiday in 1894. Most of the rest of the world marks labour on May 1 instead.
Almost everything a child touches in a day was made, moved, or maintained by somebody. The holiday is an invitation to notice that.
